If you have been diagnosed with Acid Reflux, you probably know all too well that certain foods will set off your refluxing more than others. You may not realize that eating three large meals a day may actually be causing a lot of your problem.
The more you eat, the more your stomach has to produce digestive juices in order to help break down the food. Therefore, if you eat six smaller meals throughout the day, your stomach is only forced to make a little bit of stomach acids each time you eat. Many people find this very effective in relieving the refluxing symptoms.
Many people eat their meals, get sleepy immediately, lie down, and fall asleep. This can also worsen your Acid Reflux because you did not give your food long enough to begin the digestion process, therefore, it is likely you will feel refluxing while you are trying to sleep. Also, when you eat your smaller meals be sure to each bread, rice, or pasta with your meals, since these carbohydrates help to soak up excess stomach acids, which means less refluxing you feel later. Finally, avoid fast foods or any foods that are extremely high in fat because this causes the stomach to have to work overtime to try and digest it and chances of having refluxing after a high-fat meal are very high.
